This bean is grown in Huehuetenango, Guatemala
on
the border of Mexico.
Most of the local inhabitants are descendents from various Mayan
tribes, each
of which has a distinct language and culture. Their isolation from the
Guatemalan population and the crisis in international coffee prices has
made
the indigenous inhabitants of Huehuetenango among the poorest in Central America. Thanks to the work of people
advocating
for fair trade coffees, more than 50% of the sales of Highlands
Huehuetenango
coffee are now being returned to the farmer. A real tribute to our
beagle
Josie.
